Many historical figures have contributed a great deal to the development of the Bahnhofstrasse. Twelve of them were captured in a portrait and form one of the most prestigious galleries in the world – as flags over the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich listed in order, coming from the lake Zurich in direction to Zurich main station: Boris Dreiding (1), Johann Jakob Keller (2), Rudolf Sprüngli (3), Adolf Grieder (4), Emil Meister (5), Johannes Baur (6), Elise & Franz Landolt-Arbenz (7), Johann Peter Jelmoli-Ciolina (8), Arnold Bürkli (9), Arnold Türler (10), Alfred Escher (11).
Artist
Richard Davies designer and illustrator, residing in South Wales, United Kingdom, compiled the portraits. He has worked for well-known brands such as Rolling Stone, Disney and NBC Universal His work has been exhibited in New York and Vienna. Furthermore, he has published several design books.
Location
One can easily count over 100 Bahnhofstrasses throughout Europe. However, only one has become world-famous; Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse at the heart of Zurich. It will celebrate its 150th anniversary this year. The Association of Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse was founded 60 years ago on 27th October 1955 by Hermann Sprüngli. It was, among other things, a network of retail stores and banks. Today the association comprises 140 members.
