Project
The spiky ears of Mr Spock will set a mark at the tower of the Urania observatory Zurich. The ears become a strong symbol for the icon, they will evoke many memories and association. Anyone who sees the ears feels transported into space. This symbol attracts the people and transforms the experience into a personal episode of the Summer Festival with all his power of imagination.
Artist
Foa Flux initiated the idea, before the death of Leonard Nimoy in february 2015. Foa Flux focuses on global and glocal processes, as well as on changes in the visual arts. Foa-flux is a platform for critical reflection, research, and action. They interrelate art practice, art theory, phenomenological studies, and interdisciplinary approaches.
Location
The Urania observatory was the first concrete building in Zurich and stood on a foundation of 48 timber piles, that has been driven 12 m deep into the subsoil of lake marl. Above layed a casted concrete slab, that carried the architrave block of the telescope. On the 15 juin 1907 the commercial building and the observatory have been inaugurated. The tower is approximately 51 metres high and has been listed to monument protection.
