«The boy in the red vest» by Cezanne, «La petite Irène» by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, «Saman» by Vincent van Gogh – these are just some of the masterpieces in Emil Georg Buehrle’s collection. For the summer festival, various works are projected onto the façade of the Hotel Storchen; a very special open-air exhibition, from the 19th of july 2015 daily between 9.00 pm and 11.30 am.

Artist

Emil Georg Buehrle was a Swiss industrialist, art collector and patron of the arts. 1920 saw his first acquisitions of two watercolours by Erich Heckel. The construction of the actual collection started in 1936. The collection consists of medieval sculptures and paintings by old masters, especially French impressionist paintings and paintings fromt he classical modern era. As an art museum, the Foundation Collection E. G. Buehrle displays some 180 works, which were transferred by the heirs of Emil Georg Buehrle to a foundation in 1960.

Location

The Storchen is a first-class hotel with 67 stylish guest rooms and suites in the heart of Zurich’s old town with a long tradition of hospitality and cordial and personalised service. The hotel was taken over by the industrialist Emil Georg Buehrle in 1939. The owner family Buehrle is still associated with the hotel.
