Urban Jungle – Flower graffiti

Maurice Maggi is best known for the nocturnal planting of mallow seeds under city trees. He sprinkled «seed bombs» and published the urban cookbook «Edible City». Maurice Maggi calls his markings with local wild flowers in public spaces Flower Graffiti. Since 1984, he has been creating floral interventions by sowing around roadside trees, fallow niches and railway sides. With these small-scale interventions there flourishes a subculture that gradually infiltrated and changed official guidelines and uniformity of the niche. He was born in 1955, lives and works in Zurich, is a cook and trained landscape gardener.

The PWG Foundation acquires and provides affordable residential and commercial premises in the city of Zurich. In the listed rail viaduct it leases 46 shops, studios and catering outlets, including the first market hall of the city of Zurich. In 1894, viaducts replaced railway embankments in the industrial district of Zurich. By then, business was already moving into the viaduct. Up to 200 stonemasons pursued their craft there. In 1990s, innovative tenants settled in and brought the district to life. As part of the refurbishment, the PWG Foundation took over the expansion of the viaduct arches in 2004. The aim was to fill the Viadukt with district compatible and regionally rooted usages, so that IM VIADUKT has become a meeting place for the neighbourhood and beyond.
